Located at 213 Km. to the north from El Calafate, inside Los Glaciares National Park, between the fork of De Las Vueltas and Fitz Roy Rivers.

In Mapuche language means 'Mountain of Smoke' or 'Volcano,' because the Fitz Roy or Chalten Hill, generally is covered with clouds. This small town of not more than 40 families, which has learned how to live together with the great amount of andinism that they go during all year with the desired objective of climbing and travel paths of different difficulty and duration, between forests of 'lengas' and 'ñires', lakes and lagoons, and fields of ice. Well-known like the Capital of the Trekking.

The Chalten has an infrastructure that covers the necessities of all the visitors, from Aparts, Lodgings, Cabins and campings, restaurants, shops, oil station, sanitary position.
